Groot Phesantekraal is a historic farm in the Durbanville wine region where a resourceful family combines a respect for their heritage and a passion for progress to produce accessible wines of excellence.
Minutes away from Durbanville, and only 30 minutes from Cape Town, this beautiful, modern space offers a brief respite for the weary soul, a chance to catch your breath and to soak up the beauty of the wide open spaces where vineyards meet wheat fields, and game forage peacefully nearby. Explore the farm’s colourful history through their classic range of wines while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of a working farm. Their beautifully appointed restaurant, located in the restored mule stables, offers contemporary fare to pair with the entire range of wines.
While vines were always cultivated here over the centuries, Groot Phesantekraal was known as a successful cattle, sheep and grain farm until the present fourth generation owner, Andre Brink and his wife Ronelle planted 50ha of vineyards in the late 1990s. Their boutique winery soon established a name for itself in the Durbanville Wine Valley as a friendly, beautiful destination to buy wines, enjoy a quick coffee or pair wines with a meal in their spectacular restaurant cunningly created in the expertly restored stables.
